Demonstration Class Organised By SPEAK


SPEAK which stands for Society for Promotion of English for Advanced Knowledge is a forum of Department of English, Furkating College. Since its inception, the forum has been organizing various programmes across Golaghat district to promote a better teaching-learning environment for the proper acquisition of the language. Every year, SPEAK organises a demonstration class at a nearby school to create a better understanding of the English language among the students. This year, on 14 November, 2019 SPEAK has successfully organized the demonstration class at Borjan Matikhola High School. Dr. Santulan Mahanta, assistant professor of Department of English, Hemo Prova Borbora Girls' College was present as the resource person of the programme. The programme started at 11.30 am with a short introduction and felicitation of the resource person by Dr. Rousanara Begum, assistant professor of Department of English, Furkating College and also the secretary of SPEAK. The headmistress of Borjan Matikhola High School, Mrs. Sabita Gogoi has been also felicitated. Then Dr. Mahanta delivered a lecture for one and a half hour covering various aspects of the acquisition of the English language. He also interacted with the students to give them a better grasp over the language. After the class ended, Dr. Begum thanked everyone including the school headmistress, faculties and students, the resource person, students and faculties of Department of English, Furkating College for supporting and making the venture a successful one. Sixty eight students from the school attended the demonstration class. Faculties of Department of English, Furkating College including Dr. Debashis Baruah(HOD), Indira Gogoi, Rimarani Nath and Rajarshi Nath and a few students from the department were present at the programme.

Event: Galpakatha

Culture, language, tradition and way of life of a society are best preserved in the repository called stories. In our childhood, in starry nights, we listened to stories from our grandmother.   They always enthrall us, bringing us to the lands of ancient fairies and unicorns or opening the passageway to a world where we witness the eternal woes and pains of human beings, enlightening us with morals to have a balanced life. Department of English, Furkating College successfully organized a storytelling event  Galpakatha  on 28 September, 2019. The invited narrators were Atanu Bhattacharyya, a renowned Assamese poet, writer, an editor of the Assamese literary monthly  Satsori  and Mitali De, a famous Assamese singer.  The programme started at 11 am after a short introduction of the narrators by Dr Debashis Baruah, HOD, Department of English.
