About Us

FOLIAGE is a literature forum of Department of English, Furkating College. 
Furkating College is an influential educational institute of Golaghat, Assam. The Department of English, Furkating College has always been trying to promote literature and humanitarian values in society since its inception. FOLIAGE which stands for Forum of Literature Illuminating All Genres of English was formed in 2015. Since then the forum has taken many co-curriculum activities among students including quiz competitions, observation of World Poetry Day, educational trips, literary discussions, book review programs etc. The forum conducts regular meeting sessions among the members to initiate various literary and social discussions. This blog is the official e-journal of the forum.

Demonstration Class Organised By SPEAK SPEAK which stands for Society for Promotion of English for Advanced Knowledge is a forum of Department of English, Furkating College. Since its inception, the forum has been organizing various programmes across Golaghat district to promote a better teaching-learning environment for the proper acquisition of the language. An Introduction to A Tale of Two Cities

A Tale of Two Cities is a historical novel by Charles Dickens partly inspired by Thomas Carlyle’s French Revolution , set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution . The story is an epic tragedy that masterly portrays a great hero with a tragic flaw, caught in an atmosphere of hatred and ruthlessness. The novel tells the story of a French Doctor, his 18-year-long imprisonment in Paris and his release to live in London with his daughter Lucie, whom he had never met. Charles Dickens  Alexander Manette, a young physician started his practice in Paris before French Revolution. After being married to an English lady he became the father of a baby girl. One day December, 1775 he was compelled to follow two aristocrats to a house a few miles away from Paris.  In that house he had to attend two patients, a boy and his sister who had been badly rapped by these two men but unfortunately both patients died. Culture, language, tradition and way of life of a society are best preserved in the repository called stories. In our childhood, in starry nights, we listened to stories from our grandmother.   They always enthrall us, bringing us to the lands of ancient fairies and unicorns or opening the passageway to a world where we witness the eternal woes and pains of human beings, enlightening us with morals to have a balanced life. Department of English, Furkating College successfully organized a storytelling event  Galpakatha  on 28 September, 2019. The invited narrators were Atanu Bhattacharyya, a renowned Assamese poet, writer, an editor of the Assamese literary monthly  Satsori  and Mitali De, a famous Assamese singer.  The programme started at 11 am after a short introduction of the narrators by Dr Debashis Baruah, HOD, Department of English.
